Tl, Alton v Tuamway.— The following are the tenders for the tiamway at Te Aroha, which were laid on the table by Mr Stewart, engineer, at the meeting of the council at Cambi idge on Wednesday last :— Lhingstonc, €7091 Is Sd ; Btett and Mullinger, £7170 «">s ; Darrow and Foughoy, £7211 10s ; O'Jinen, £5799 35. ; Robuu-on ,uid Goidon, C10.0A9 Is Sd ; Hunt and White, £10,937 10s lid. The tenders having been considered, the following report was submitted by the Tramway (k>nsti notion Committee, (Crs. Whitakcr, Firth and Fergusson) :— " Your committpc having fully considered the tenders for the construction of the tramway at Te Aroha, find that the total cost of the main line and the three inclines would be £10,614, besides which the upper horse-tiamway would cost an additional bum of £2230, to which must be added for commission on the whole a lurthcr sum of £400, making a total of £13,204. Your committee consider the sum beyond the means of the council, as at picsent available, and would theielore lecommcnd that that portion of the work be caiiicd out, cmbiacing the incline down Butlei's .spin, a length of OS chains, fiom the bottom of this incline to the top of the battery incline, and the battery incline. This the committee call "A" contract, and will cost £5014. Your committee further lecomnieiul the constiuction of the upper noise ttamway, c.dlcd "B" contract, for a length of I ', miles, costing £2,2.">0. Com minion, £400,0n the whole would lia\e to be added, making a total of.— Pieliminary account, £1000; A contract, 5b"14; "B !< contiact, £22,30; commission, £400— £9204. To conduct the above works the council ha-> available a gr.int fiom Government of £0000. £800 has already been paid. Re\cnuc accruing the next m\ months* may bafely bo reckoned at £2000, making a total ot £SBOO, lea\ing .v debit balance of £4(H, a debt which your committee would httongly recommend the council to incur. Your committee further, upon conference with the engineei. recommend the acceptance of Messrs Daitow and Foughey's tender, £7211 10s, subject to the whole of woiks beyond OS chains on the mam Hue, together with the upper incline not being executed." Maclean, it \ evolved " That the lepoit of the Tramway f'ommittue be adopted, and th it Messrs Ddirow and Foughoy's tender be accepted as l commended." — C'ariicd. — It was f mther agieed on the motion of Or. Chepmell, that the Tramway Committee be re-appointed. The Waito.i HruuwAv District.— On the motion of O. Chepmell, it was agteed to send a telegram to the Government, asking that that portion of the Waitoa Highway Disti ict lying within the Thames County be included in the L'iako County. Firth, it was icsolved " That the expenditure on the Cam-bridge-Tan ranga, road must not exceed the sum of £1000 in all, iock excavation included, but exclusive of the sum of £371, amount of contiact for the erection of the bridge over the Mangawhara and Mangawhero streams, respectively." — Carried. — The thanks of the council were aecoided Cr. W. T. Filth, for his report upon the deviation of the load between ] Juice's hill and Stanford biidgc, Tlll-RoMJh AM) BIUUOKs Co>sTKCCtio.n Act. — Cis. Ellis and Campbell and the chairman, wcic appointed a committee to take the necessary steps for applying to Government for a giant, to make that portion of the CambridgeTauranga road between Stanford and Bridge water bridge, under the " Roads and Bridges Construction Act." The bame gentlemen were also appointed a committee to apply to Government under the same act, for the necessary sum to construct a road from the border of the Thames county to the Wairere Falls. Maix Road at Waitoa.— On the motion of Cr. Chepmell it was resolved "That the council apply to the Government for a graut of £3000 (under the .Roads and Bridges Construction Act) for the completion of the main road in the Waitoa Highway District, from the confiscation boundary to Te Aroha, and that the council instruct the engineer of the highway district to prepare the necessary plans and estimates of the cost of the works required, also, that the council shall cause the necessary steps to be taken for taking a poll of the ratepayers concerning the levying of a special rate under the said act."— Carried. Beidge ovkr the Waitoa. — Captain Turner having reported that the bridge over the Waitoa river was completed with ttie exception of screwing home certain bolts, the council decided to retain the sum of £5 uutil such time as the bolta should be correctly and sufficiently screwed ; and further to impose a penalty of £10 upon the contractor for non-com-jple'tionof work within contract time. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed for payment : — D. Henderson, £232; Hyde, £20 16s; Tringham. £15 18 ; Nolan, £1 14; imprest account! (Jas. Stewart), £200.
