Prirarpse r said it appeared * from the ' statement* submitted, prepared by the,.c,punty,, treasurer, that the town district of Cambridge had actually received £29 18s 4d of the country district's funds more than they were entitled to for the Karapiro bridge* — 'The clerk stated that the town board had ye« ceived au additional grant of £200 from the Government for this work, with which fact they had not acquainted the • council. — Some further ' discussion took place on ' the subject, an opiuion being expressed that as the town * board now received 'all tlie i revenue accruing from licenses, &c, the council had no control 1 over them, and that the money received for the Karapiro bridge in excess of the grant could only ba returned by the courtesy of the board. — It was finally resolved to reply to Mr Taylors- letter, - stating that- there was no money to the credit of the riding. Accounts. — A number of accounts were passed for payment. Tub Roads' Cuxstructiox Ad*.— Cr. Primro3e said he had an application to make from the Kirikiriroa Road Beard. The board considered it necessary to borrow a sum of £3000, to be spent on the main roads running through their district. The money could be obtained only by the county council, which body must also levy the special rate required to repay one-fourth of the loan, under the provisions of the Counties Act Amendment, ISS2, the council could delegate any or all of its powers within road districts to the boards of those districts. The board proposed to ask the council to do this. But it was necessary that the council should make the application. Ho therefore moved, that the clerk be instructed to apply to Government for the loan, and forward plans and specifications, &c. These latter were now being prepared by Mr T. G. Sandes, who would have them ready in about ten days. — Cr. Runciman seconded the motion, and in doing so stated- that the Tamahere Highway Board also contemplated borrowing for the construction of their portion of the main road to Piako, which was a continuation of that in the Kirikiriroa district, but he* was no prepared to move a resolution just then. He considered the whole of the works should be undertaken at < the same time. — The motion was carried, and it was agreed to hold a special meeting on the •4th December, to consider similar applications from other parts of county. , Bound.vriks ov Ridixgs.— lt wag resolved to carry out the alterations required by the new-act. This was all the business.
Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the council, for the purpose of electing a chairman, was. held yesterday. Present : ' Captain Steele (chairman), Crs. Primrose, Runciman ami Graham.— Or. Primrose proposed that Ciptain Steele be re-elected chairman of the council for the ensuing year. He was sure they could not get a better chairman, or one in whom they had more confidence. He had never heard of a single complaint aboufc the manner in which their business had been conducted. — Or. Runciman seconded the motion, which was carried.— Captain Steele thanked the council for their continued confidence, and assured them he would strive to act fairly and 'impartially.
Ordinary Meeting. An ordinary meeting of the council was held immediately after the above, the same councillors boing present. Division* of Cambridge Riding.— The clerk reported that he had submitted the .legal.difiicnlty raised by Cr., Wells to the law officers of the Grown, who had replied stating that it was not their function to interpret the law to local bodies, and recommending the council to consult their own solicitor.
