PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of the above council wis held at the Council chambers, Cambridge, yesterday. There were present : Crs. R, H, D. Fergusson, W. T. Firth, Maclean, J. C. Firth, Cliepmell, Ellis, Whitaker and Campbell.

CirvißttAX.--Cr.Jl. K. D. Fevgaasoa was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. The minutes of the previous meeting were read anil confirmed.

TkAbohv Tk nnv.vv. —Tenders wore opened for this work, and ranged from £7091 Is Sd to £10,937 10s lOd. After discussion it was resolved to considerably amend the works to be done at present, and accept a tender for only a portion, amounting to about i' 3,250, on the schedule rates, and Messrs Darrow find Foughey are tiic successful tenderers. The outgoing correspondence of the council was then disposed of.

llo.vu Through IVAKMUiwruiu.— A letter was received from Mr Goo. Walker, offering a sufficient quantity of land to the council for the deviation of the Oambridge-Tauranga road, through I his property, which would greatly shorten the road. On the motion of Cf. J. C. Firth, it was agreed to accept Mr Walker's offer.

TkkSwinu Bridi.k at Tic Akohv.— Tlie clerk stated that lie had received no reply to the council's communication to the ' Minister for Public Works u> the swing bridge at Te Aroha. — On the motion of O. Fergusson ifc was agreed that a telegram should be sent to the Minister, drawing his attention to the matter.

CAMBRIDGE - TAt'HVKOV E.OVU. —A letter was received, fiom Mr J. B. Whyte, re the request of the council to have the grant for the Cambrid«e-Tauranga road increased. He was sovry to have to inform them he had not been able to obUin what they required, and they would therefore have to bo content with then share of the expended grant, £.500. He would, however, advise them to avail themselves of the provisions of the Roads Construction Act, 1882. [The meeting was not finished when our report was forwarded.] /
