Mayoral Election. The nomination of Ccindidates for the ensuing year took place at the Council Chambers, yesterday, at noon. Two candidates came forward, Mr John Knox (the present Mayor), nominated by Messrs W. Lovett and A. Campbell, and Mr Robt. Peat, nominated by Messrs Gaudin and N. R. Cox. It was generally supposed up* to Saturdayftthat Mr Peat would have had a walk over, but on that day Mr Knox, who had previously intimated that it was not his intention to offer himself for re-election, yielded to the solicitations of a number of ratepayers and, came forward. * Th^'poll will be taken to-morrow week, the 29th inst.
