HA MIL TON CAV A LRY VOLUNTEERS.
The meeting of the Hamilton Tioop Cavaliy Volunteers, uas but poorly attended on Saturday night. The chairman, Lieut. Johnson, in remarking this fact, said he felt very much the lack of ei.pr<t (h cvrj>b of late, and thought that if there were no better attendance at the training tit ill on Monday, it would, perhaps be better to call in the arms, and then try and reorganise. It was no use carrying on the tioop in &o halfhearted a manner. The chairman also pointed out that all members at present represented on the strength of the corps, but who failed to put in an appearance at dilll, would be fined, and t'lese fines with any othev claim would lie sued for if not paid upon demand. Lieut. Johnson also expressed an opinion that it would have tended to keep more efficient members together if this had been adopted long ago, as a trooper would know that he had either to resign, or in default of attending hib regular drills, he would be called upon for payment of pretty heavy fines. The resignations of tiorgt. Mauktelow and Trooper Land ere read. The latter was accepted, but it was decided to hold over Sergt. Manktelow's in the hope of his re- considering his decision. It was also resolved that each member in funds should pay an extra subscription of 5s towards defraying the expenses over the late match with the Waiuku team, and in the event of a dissolution of the troop this should be refunded, and be considered a first charge before any division took place. The members present received their balance of pay, and it was remarked that a much larger gathering would have taken place if many had been aware of the substantial balances to their credit. A vpte of thanks to the chairman concluded the business of the evening.
Half-yearly Drill. The half-yearly training of the Hamilton Cavalry Troop commenced yesterday. Lieut. Johnson was in command, and the total number of all ranks on parade "was seven. Those who did turn out presented a most creditable appearazice. Sergt.Major Carley, drill instructor, was present, and exercised the men. It is hoped there will be a larger muster to-day.
