RAGLAN MAIL CONTRACT.

A public meeting was held in the Whatawhata school-house on Wednesday night to protest against the action of the Postal Department in again accepting a tender for a horse service for the .Raglan mail contract. There was a good attendance, and the chair was occupied by Mr Cornelius Day. Those present having expressed their disapproval of the course taken by the Government, the following resolution was carried nun con : — "That the Whatawhata settlers, viewing with great regret the determination of the postal authorities to convey the mails to this township by a horse service, would most respectfully urge upon them the advisableness of altering their resolution, and taking steps to accept a tender for their conveyance by a coacli ; and they have the more confidence in laying this matter before them as> the difference in the cost of the two services is so trifling."
