Diocesan Synod. Auckland, Lust Night. Tiik Diocesan Synod was opened to-day by a communion sen ice at St. Paul's in the morning, and the Bishop's address in the afternoon. His Lordship ref cried feelingly to the deaths of Rev. Mcssis Lush, Scott, and Taylor and Patiki, the Maori minister. He spoke warmly in advocacy of the necessity for supporting the home mission collections and maintaining the efficiency of Snndayschools. Regarding the Maori church, he said " I have much pleasure in reporting to the Synod that m many districts of diocese good progi ess i& being made in the work of the church among the native race by our Maori clergy and lay readeis duringthepastyear. In thearehdeaconry of Waimate churches had been built by Maoris in the settlements of Ransiaohia, and Kohumaru. and at Ahipara, Kaitaia Orinu, Ohaeatvai, and Maimatuaku. Many of their young men and women have received the rite oi confirmation. Native church board meetings have been held at Ahipara and Pamwai, the latter under presidency of Aichdeacon Maunsell. I have much hope that the reconcilation that has been effected between the Government and the Maoris of the Southern Waikato and West Coast districts of the Diocese will soon lesult in the restoration to the church of many who were alienated from us by political troubles in former yeais."
