TUHIKARAMEA.
Great satisfaction is felt here at the successful way in which our worthy member exerted himself during the late session in procuring a further grant to complete the road between this district and Hamilton ; indeed, I think residents in all parts of the county have reason to congratulate themselves in having the right man in the right place. Mr Blackett, who purchased the western half of Mr J. B. Whyte's farm some few months since, is now getting a house erected in a very commanding position. He has also been busy putting in crops j and although some of his old neighbours at Te Awarautu did their best, I believe, to f lighten him fiom coming here, he is well satisfied with, the way in which the land turns up, and is sanguine he will yet prove that he has made no mistake. Messrs McMicken, .the purchasers of the other half of the 'farm, who have only been in possession about a fortnight, have already done a lot of work, and 1 believe there is at last a prospect of this really fine property having a fair chance of showing what it is capable of. Several of our old settlers are also doing more cropping than usual. lam told there is a prospect of our getting a bi-weekly mail service at the expiration of the present contract. This ought to be a great boon to the district, as under existing arrangements we only get our mail on Saturday evening, which is a great drawback to the place, not to speak of the delay in correspondence. The Waikato Times is rendered almost useless to us, so, far as notices of sales, &c, are concerned. I see tenders were called for carrying our mails via Whatawhata, but the general feeling here is strongly opposed to any change of this sort, as Hamilton is naturally our post town, and although the distance- to Whatawhata may be a little less,' l should yet fancy that the. service could be per- : formed at as low a rate from Hamilton, as in going there the mail man - would always have an opportunity of doing other business ; but to Whatawhata the , journey would be for the mail, and nothing else. And, now we are getting a few more settlers' this side we might 'soon be able to get a conveyance of some kind to run to Hamilton once or twice a week, which would be a great advantage. — [Own Correspondent.]) I 1I 1 ,>.
