NATIVE LANDS COURT, CAMBRIDGE.
Yesterday.— (Before His Honor, Chief Judge Fentonand Judge Williams.) Business has now properly commenced in the Native Lands Court at present sitting at Cambridge. The Matanuku Block, consisting of about 22,000 acres, lias been brought before the court, and is now being adjudicated upon. There are five different claimants in the block, v : z :—: — The Ngati Poroaha Hapu represented byHarry Symonds, and the Ngahkauhoro represented by Te Rai Paehua, against the Ngati Waita, Ngati Ngarongo, and Ngati Hinimatu hapus, represented by members of their respective hapus. Dr. Buller and Mr F. A. Whitaker are attending the court watching the European interest. Mr J. Sheehan is daily expected to arrive. The Matanuku country is afine piece of land situate between the Whakamaru and Waotu Blocks and the Waikato river. Major Jackson, one of the provisional directors of the proposed Auckland Native Land Colonization Company, is at present at Cambridge.
