The usual preliminary business was disposed of. Local Dr visage. — The board having written to the Commissioner of Lands, asking the Government to contribute towards the drainage of land sold by them within the town belt, a reply was received, stating that any money at the disposal of the Land. Uepaitment was to be devoted to the opening up of waste lands, and that nothing could be given towards the drainage of any land which had been disposed of. Rose and Clements r. "Board. — The Chaiunan referring to the judgment of Arbitration Court in this case, by which Messrs Clements and Rose were awarded £IS3 and £45 respectively, said he had not as yet received any official account of the trial from the counsel for the board at Auckland, and consequently, under these circumstances, he would suggest that the whole matter be allowed to stand over for consideration at some futme time. They were already £360 in debt, with liabilities outstanding to the amount of upwards of £250, and they would see from this, that even were they to discuss the matter they were not in a position to pay the claim that evening. A number of accounts had been rendered by the various witnesses' for the board, for their expenses attending the court at Auckland. He was not aware that there was [ any fixed scale of allowances for witnesses attending a compensation court, and this being so, lie would suggest that the board should pay their- witnesses ne--col ding to the scale by which witnesses attendiug the Supreme Court were paid. As some of the accounts were somewhat unreasonable, they would probably have to be taxed. Footpath* Formation.—A letter was received from Mr T. Peek, asking to have tne footpath at the corner of Fort and Duke-streets formed. It was agreed to leave the work in the hands of the surfaceman. \ Faulty Dbainagk. — Cr.
