WATER SUPPLY FOR CAMBRIDGE. [BY TELEGRAPH.-OWN REPORTER.]
Cambridge, Last Night. Mr Hokkino, 0.E., has prepared a scheme for supplying Cambridge with water. He submits it as one of temporary ace ommodatioii, and sufficient to meet the requirements of the town until it is able to afford to carry out a permanent scheme. He proposes to put a floating water wheel in the Waikato river to pump the water to the top of the bank and through a five inch main to a reservoir at Reids corner. The reservoir is estimated to contain 300, 000 gallons, and the pumping machinery is estimated to lift 30,000 gallons daily. The leservoir will be of sufficient ele\ ation to force the water to any part of the town, but in case of fire it w ill not put it over the houses. This is to be done by a fire engine, The estimated cost, including service pipes, is £2300.
