SUPREME COURT, AUCKLAND. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, to day, Judge Gillies in dunging the Grand Jury, said the calender for the present occasion was comparatively a light one. Tlicre are 18 prisoners, charged with 24: offences, but none of these oifences are of a very aggravated character, and none which presented any features that required special direction. There are 10 peisons charged with sixteen offences of the nature of theft-, that is larcencies, housebreaking, burglary, and hor&e and cattle stealing. The Grand Jury returned true bills in every case, including that against Leyden, auctioneer of Thames, for unlawfully stabbing ; Mr Erownlie pleaded guilty to forging an endorsement to a promissory note, and was sentenced to eighteen months'; Robert Marsh pleaded guilty to several charges of housebreaking, and was sentenced to three ycais' : Thomas Binning was sentenced to twelve months for stealing from two Pukekohe settlers at the Metropolitan Hotel ; Aubiey Fitzgerald was sentenced to twelve months' for being unlawfully on the premises of Richard Udy, of Mount Eden, during the night. On the application of the Crown prosecutor, tho sureties in the case of Sarah Johnson (Cleaver), Cambridge, were released, the accused having died.
