WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly 'meeting of the council was held at, the chambers, Hamilton East, yesterday* when j there were present Crs. Primrose (in the chair), Jas. Runcmian, S. S. Graham and R. Ralph. — A deputation of the Cambridge Highway Board waited on the council re the Karapiro Bridge vote. , [A report of this portion of the proceedings appears elsewhere in this issue.]— Mr J. C. Anderson wrote complaining of the state of the roads between Rangiriri and Mercer. Mr J. Hastie wrote on the same subject, and on the motion of Cr. Runciman, it was agreed that the engineer, accompanied by Cr. Ralph, should inspect the roads, and report on same.— The Clerk reported that, having seen in the papers a reference to the £110 award, he had written to Messrs Heskoth and Richmond, to ask if they were still watching the case. He had received a reply to the effect that they were not aware of any proceedings having transpired in regard to the award, but would' give the subject attention.— A number of accounts were passed for payment. Special Meeting. — Division of Cambridge Riding. At a special meeting held immediately after the above, Cr. Primrose moved, according to notice, "That in accordance with the provisions contained in sections 36 and 80 of the Counties Act, the number of ridings in the county be increased by the erection of the Cambridge Town District into a riding, the boundaries of the present riding to be altered accordingly, and that the representation of the riding be altered so as to give two members to the country and one to the town riding, the former riding to include all that portion of the Taotaoroa Highway District lying within the county." He did not consider it necessary to say much on the subject. The town of Cambridge was now practically cut off from the country, and would have very little business to transact with them, and the country district ought to be better represented. The motion was seconded by Cr. Graham and carried unanimously, and the clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to give it effect. This was all the business.
