Received 4.52 p.m., September 20. Sir E. Malet advises keeping a permanent garrison of 11,000 men at Alexandria. Sir Archibald Allison will probably be left in command. The British fleet is now preparing for departure. The Bedouins are quiet, and the Khedive is well received at Cairo. The " Daily News " Urges Occupation.—The Cheriff of Mecca.— The Guards. London, September 26. The Daily Ncwt> strongly urges the Government to a long occupation of Egypt. The reported deposition and imprisonment of the Cheriff of Mecca lacks confirmation. A hospitable reception is being prepared for the Guards on arrival at Port Said.
