Steam Service.

The irregularity with which the steam service between this port and Onehunga continues to be conducted is becoming of late so apparent, that steps are likely to be taken to induce the Waikato Steam Navigation Co. to run oneoftheirsteamers to this port. The complaints made against the present service are many and general, and it is quite obvious that opposition will soon be forthcoming if an improvement in it does not take place. Agricultural Prospects. With the fine weather we have been enjoying during the last fortnight, rapid progress has been made with potato planting. As usual, a large area of land has been planted, both by the Eui'opean and native population. But little wheat appears to have been sown by the settlers here this season, although the Maoris of Kawhia and Aotea are not so far behindhand in this respect. Some of the wheat I lately saw growing at Hone te Hone's settlement in Kawhia looked well, although none of it was superior to a piece I noticed a few days ago at Mr Thomas Mitchells, of Karioi. This portion was far before anything of the sort I have seen in this district for a long time, and reflected much credit upon the grower for the careful manner in which it had been sown, and the land prepared for it. On the same farm I also saw some of the best looking young grass I have noticed this season.
