NARROW ESCAPE FROM FIRE.

The residence of Mr ¥. A. WhitaUer, M.H.R., Claudelands, Hamilton, very nariowly escaped destruction by fire on Saturday evening last. Between eight and nine o'clock, Airs Whitaker discovered iire in one of the rooms, and shortly afterwards in two others. ,With the assistance of the groom the flames were soon extinguished before much damage was done. No clue has been obtained as to the cause of the fire. Mr Whitaker was from home at the time of the occurrence.
