PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BAZAAR.

The bazaar held in the Public Hall, Hamilton, for the purpose of raising funds to clear off the debt remaining on the Hamilton Presbyterian Church, was formally opened on Thursday afternoon by Capt. Runciman, in the presence of a large body of visitors. He commenced by referring in terms of praise to the exertions of the ladies of the congregation, and complimented them on the grand display of goods which he saw around him. He was a family man, and could form some idea of the amount of really hard work which the ladies had taken upon themselves to do, and he thought they were deserving of the thanks of the other members of the congregation. He was not much of an extempore speaker, and was besides, reserving himself for lecturing on his experiences in America. He could tell them that he was gl<id to be back in New Zealand, and during the whole of his journey he had not seen any place he liked so much. He hoped the bazaar would be a success, and had much pleasure in formally declaring it to be open. Previous to the opening ceremony, and subsequently, at intervals, selections of pianoforte music were contributed by lady members of the church, and visitors, which added greatly to the pleasure of those present. During the afternoon and evening a brisk trade was done at the various stalls, the takings amounting to something over £60. During the evening the Hamilton Band, who had kindly given their services, played a number ot tunes outside the hall. The attendance yesterday was not so good as on Thursday, but the receipts were nevereheless veiy satisfactory. Today the bazaar will be continued, and in the evening an auction sale will take place. Among the articles to be raffled to-day are some beautiful satin ottomans, mantel ornaments, Gipsy tables, and many others too numerous to particularise. To-day it is expected that there will be a large attendance of country people.
