REMOVAL OF THE ARMED CONSTABULARY.

The officer in charge of the Armed Constabulary in the Cambridge district received intelligence late on Saturday evening that the men were to hold themselves in readiness to move in about a week's time. Nothing whatever is known yet as to where the men will next be located ; but it is generally believed that the majority of them will again proceed to the Rotorua Road to finish the piece near the entrance to the bush j and probably some will be sent to the Ohinemutu side of the bush to form the road between the bush and the township. The Kihikihi men proceeded yesterday to Cambridge to join the Cambridge body ; but we understand the Constabulary at Alexandra are not to be moved. The Karapiro bridge and earthworks ai'e scarcely half finished, but the men are making satisfactory progress with the work. It is not yet known whether those men engaged on the bridge will be allowed to stay behind to complete the work. Having to complete it by contract would doubtless mean money and inconvenience to the local board, who have justnow very little money to i spare. As the Government are interested in the work, probably the board may be successful in urging upon them the desirability of allowing the bridge men to remain until the work is completed.
