PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the above body was held at the Council Chambers, Cambridge, on Friday last. There were present :—Crs. J. C. Firth, G. B. Ellis, E. Maclean, W. L. C. Williams, W. P. Chepmell, and J. P. Campbell.—The uaual preliminary business was disposed of.
Road Through the Grant and Foster Settlement. —A letter was received from Mr E. J. Cox, of the above settlement, dealing with the council's decision on the matter of Mr Grant's application for a road through the settlement, and referring to promises which had been made by the Government in regardto the same. After consideration, the council decided on the motion of Cr. • Chepmell,." That the clerk be, instructed to write' to? Mr Cox acknowledging the receipt of his letter, and informing him that the council were not, parties to any promise made by the Government or, private persons re the formation ' of roads within Messrs Grant and- Four's Nblock;* that tKeaihountof rates collected) within the Te AYoh&rßidink -tbtthe^present date is only, £Sd- 3s,:tyhi<jh siuinwouW > 1
totally inadequate for the -work applied for; but that the council are always willing to assist in opening up roads within the country, in so far as their funds will
permit." Waihou Bridob. — Communications were received upon this subject from Captain Turnei and the contractor, Mr Henderson, explaining tause of delay, which was attributed to the unfavourable condition of the roads and the inclemency of the weather. The clerk was instructed to wiite to Captain Turner requesting him to iise all efforts necessary to hasten of the
tiie completion work. THE CAMBRIDUh-TAUHANGA ROAD. — The mattoi of the completion of this road for twifßc was discussed, and on the motion of Cr. Firth it was unanimously resolved, " Hut Capt. Turner be instructed to pic[iaio plans and specifications for two budges on the main line of road between Cambridge and Tauranga, across the Maugawhare and Mangawhero creeks
respectively." Tins Te Akoiia Tramway.—A letter and report weie received from Mr Jas. Stewait, C.E., re the Te Aroha tramway, and weie laid before the council and read.
Closino Roads at Waitoa.—-In this matter, the consideration of which was adjourned from last meeting, the council decided on the motion of Cr. Campbell, "That the resolutions which were adopted at a meeting of the ratepayers of the Waitoa Highway District, held at Morrinsville on the sth May last, and numbered on the minutes of said meeting Nos. 4 and 5 i cspectively, be confirmed ; the said roads referred to containing by admeasurement 25 acres, 1 rood, 18 perches, 1 rood 17 perches respectively; and situated in a portion of Te Pae o tu Rawaru No. 2 block." It was further agreed on the motion of Cr. Firth, " That all the remaining roads named in the schedules and numbered Nos. 2 and 3 in the minutes of aforesaid meeting be rofeireu back to the Waitoa Highway Boaid for fiuther consideration." Slaugutmi- house By-laws. — The clerk was mstiucted to have copies of the by-laws tor tins regulation of slaughterhouses printed, the same to be sold at Is each. This terminated the business.
