POLITICAL NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH.-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Prospects of the Session. Wellington, Last Night.

Everything, excepting the Order Paper, indicates the approaching prorogation. Members have been told that no further opportunity wo ald be afforded for the despatch of private business, and that the reniainder of the session would be monopolised by Government. The Order Paper continues as fully loaded as ever. Tlieie are eighty-six orders of the day, together \\ ith questions and motions. Dm ing last week the House has sat almost continuously, commencing early in the morning, and remaining up to all hours of the night. The same will be continued next week, and in all probability the work will finish at a late hour on Saturday evening, the 2nd prox., and the formal prorogation will take place on or about the Thursday following. In that case a wholesale destruction of bills may be looked for on an early day next week. The Public Works and Supplementary Estimates have not yet made their appearance. They will do so next week, and, as usual, be rushed through at the rate of £2,000 per second. The loan bills are held over in abeyance, bound up as they are with the financial policy. They will be forced through in some way. It is said that a determined effoit will be made to get the clause exacting that the million loan for the North Island is not to be raised until the route and line have been sanctioned by Parliament rescinded. To-night the Land Bill is in committee, and, as was generally expected, the leasing policy is being strongly contested. The House has been given to understand that the Government intend forcing it through to-night. If so, a protracted sitting may be looked for.
