A public meeting will be held on Friday next to urge upon the Go.vei'nment to construct a line of lailway to the West Coast in pieference to extending the line towards Blenheim. Christclnil'ch f appears to <bV ijhreatened with a renewal of the 'unemployed agitation which prevailed two yearaago. For some time past, it lias' been observable that the number of men to r be seen congregated at stieet corners ''was rather larger than usual.] i Yesterday morning an announcement appeared in the papers that a meeting of unemployed would be held at 10 o'clock in Cathedral Square. At the hour named some 20 or 30 men were gathered at the south side of the Square, but no one came forward to address them, and after a while it became evident that the announced meeting would not t.ike place. The gathering, after waiting tor over half-an-hour gradually dispersed. At 1 1 o'clock about 130 men assembled, but nothing was done.
