MR DRAINAGE INTO TE KOUTOU LAKE.
' .TO THE EDITOR' Sir,— l hoped that after the very strong protest made by the ratepayers of this part of the town o* Cambridge East against draining the township into the lake, that it would never have been proposed again, but I hesar that the town commissioners are about to adopt a plan prepared by their engineer for this purpose Now, Sir, this is a, strange proceeding, when there is plenty of fall, either into the Waikato River 'or the creek below the lake. The two commissioners residing in the vicinity of the lake have, I hear, voted against it, but the other three, residing in' a different part of the town, have over-ruled them. I may mention that the .property owners around the lake are determined to resist this -piece of injustices qto the utmost of .their power in every lawful manner, as they consider that if the main sewer is deliveredintothelake, itwillturn what is now a beautiful slieet ' ofpure spring water, into 'a filthy pond,**wiuch will be a public nuisance, and can**/ disease and death. I would ask is this^l the use our Domain Board is going to put pur>pablic ? property- # $p ; and^jeeing that our railway; station is to be on the bank of the lake, will' ihe Government allow it to be made into a filthy pjt ? I hope not j and I hope that the* town commissioners will reconsider the matter, lanct even if it ,'does tdke a few pounds.more nofone will complain to have Qur n town fceptr what it ( now,is, clean and, healthy, and avoid what would be a 'disgrac^'lto' jthem. — Ypurs &c.
