PIRONGIA HIGHWAY DISTRICT.

Tiik annual meeting of the ratepayers of this district was held in the school-house on Saturday, the 29th ult. The weather being very inclement and bad for travelling, the meeting was not a very crowded one. However, at last we mustered a few over the number required to form a legal meeting, but at a somewhat later hour than the advertised time. Mr J. H. Thompson was proposed as chairman, and took the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The election of a new board was then proceeded with, and there was some difficulty in getting the required number. The following ratepayers were at iast induced to stand : — Messrs W. Jordan, Isaac Hodgson, E. G. McMinn, J. H. Thompson, and James McGuirk ; auditors, Messrs A. S. Sherrett and Finlayson. — After the election of the board, Mr Thompson, the chairman, said that the present time was a very good one to get the opinion of the meeting, or of the district, about, the furze nuisance.
