LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Last Night.
Assetc Wren, who was arrested at Ohaupo on a charge of embezzlement from the Accident Insurance Company was brought before the Police Court to-day. Evidence was given of his failure to pay in certain moneys. The case was adjourned to allow consideration of a technical difficulty raised upon the information. The schooner Elizabeth Curee from Lyttleton, was driven ashore at Cuvier Island. The captain and crew reached Auckland in an open boat. Market quotations this week show very little alteration on last week's prices. Butter has improved in value to the extent of 3d, while eggs are 3d per dozen lower. Shingles aie quoted at Ms 6d, which is an advance of 6d per 1000. The gum market is easier, but there is no change to report in the price. At a meeting of the creditors of Chatwin, the absconder, builder, to-day, the liabilities were stated at £1617. A dividend of about three shillings in the pound is payable.
