RUSSELL, Last Night. Lieut. Drake, of the Nelson, whilst taking a walk in tiie bush towards Flagstaff Hill, came upon the body of a man with his throat coat, the knife being still grasped in his hand. He immediately gave information, and thJe seamen who were ashore brought the body to Flood's hotel. It was identified as the remains of Daniel ,'Munn; { brdthfer of David Mun'n, : 'the • Nvelf-knowhi jbekey, He arrived back from a trip to Auckland by the Glcrielg last Tuesday, anil it was remarked that he seemed strange in his manner, like one who.had been drinking heavily. Since his arrival nothing was seen of him till the body was found. At the inquest the Verdict was ''that deceased did away with himself whilst labouring under a fit of temporary insanity. "
DUNEDIN, Last Night,
A fire was discovered early'yesterday morning in the cellar of Thomas McQill, draper, in the Arcade. A constable first saw the fire, McGill, who was on the premises, not being cognisant of it. With assistance the fire was soon extinguished. The stock, etc., was 'insured for £2OOO. A quantity of oil, moppings, ragsj etc., were discovered at the fire in • such a position as led the police to arrest McGill.

WELLINGTON, Last Night,
It is understood that at the request of the Government Mr W. fc-'eed has relinquished his intention of retiring from the position of Secretary and luspector of Customs to. assume the managership of the Wellington Trust and Loan Company, and that he will therefore continue as permanent head of the Customs Department.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. The wreck of the barque Australind was sold for £162. The sea last night completely broke her up.
LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.

' Auckland, Last Another consignment of five thousand cans of mullet came down from Helensville to-day. Many of ; the fish were caught by Maoris, and are so large that they have,to be packed in two pound tins.
At the Coffee Palace meeting, to-day, a statement was submitted showing that only eight' thousand shares had been sub-' cribed, for. A resolution was carried, asking the shareholders either' to double the number of their shares, or the company would be wound up. It is understood that jWiniata! will be executed on Friday next.
