RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COVET, HAMILTON. (Yesterday.— Before Mr. H. W. Northcroft, R.M., and Mr S. T. Seddon, J.J.) Breach of the Licensing Act.

Samuel Pasoob, barman at the Royal Hotel, Hamilton East, was charged with supplying liquor to one Andrew Browning, a prohibited person, on the night of the 27th June. Mr Hay appeared for defendant, and pleaded not guilty. Constable Murray prosecuted, and Browning on being called proved the offence. For the defence it was stated that the liquor was supplied to auother person who was with Browning, but in answer to the Bench said he waa not prepared to swear -ho had not served Browning. The Bench inflicted a fine of 40s and costs. Constable Murray said there was another charge against the defendant, but as he had secured a conviction he would withdraw it.

Alleged Assault. D. Elliot was charged with assaulting one Ernest Potter, a lad of 16 years of age, on the 7th July. Mr Greshatri appeared for plaintiff, and Mr O'Neill and Mr Hay for the defendant. The assault was alleged to have been committed while plaintiff was in the act of driying defendant's cattle tojaound for -trespassing on land the ownership, of jvb'ich was^di.sputed by-the parties.,,.
