Correspondence. --The Cliief Surveyor wrote stating that the standard survey of the borough could not be done for the , present, as the District Surveyor had other work in hand. — An application from the agent of the Union Bank to have the crossing opposite the bank leplticert was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. — 'flic manager of the Waikato Steam Navigation Company wiote stating that the company intended building an office on lot 411, and asking the council to remove the eaith to the toad line. —Letter received. — The licensed victuallers of Hamilton wrote asking the council to take the matter of the licensing fees into consideration with a view to refund so much as will make the fees similar to the amounts formerly charged. —The vlayor ojiposed the application. — The letter was received.— rAn application from Mr John Deegan to have a culvert] opposite his property was deferred, pending the construction of the footpath.— Mr A. Scott and other residents in Victoriastreet, wrote asking to have the footpath gravelled along the hollow opposite Poulsham's. — After some discussion, in the course of which tire Mayor urged that they should' first make good ceitain roads in Hamilton Ei&t, the application* was deferred, it beingresolved that the council should go round the borough orr Monday, next, with a view to decicbng on what works were necessary to be done.— An application was received from the schoolmaster, Hamilton East, -to gravel the playground. It was resolved to refer the letter to the Works Committee with power to gravel the playgrounds of both schools, and to drain the water where necessary. — A. report fiom the Works Committee on several works in the, borough was received. General Business. — The Town Clerk read the statement of accounts as follows : — General account (overdraft),, £203 6s 8d; special fund account (credit), £170 15s sd.— Mr J. S. Edgecumbe was appointed auditor vice' Mr Geo. Edgecumbe, resigned. — It was resolved that the chairman of the Works Committee have power to employ day labour where necessary. — The Mayor and Crs. Peat and Lovett were appointed a committee to' confer with the engineer as to the terms, &c., for making plans and di cawing up specifications of the most efficient and cheapest mode of draining the Victoria-street block, Hamilton West, to report at the next meeting. — Leave was granted to Cr. McGarrigle, on account of illness. — Pursuant to notice, Cr. Bradley moved that the approaches to the Hamilton West school be put in good order, the cost not to exceed £50, and the work to be done under the supervision of the Worka Committee without delay! Cr. Peat said tKe 'Works Committee had made some temporary improvements, and with the leave of the council • the motion was deferred till after Monday. — On the motion of Cr. Robson, it was resolved that hawkers of fish in the borough be exemptfrom license fees. — It wasi resolved that the Cambridge and Ohaupo roads,. ■ and the cNgaruawahia road' near Mr Scott's residence, be put in order by the Works Committee. — Tenderswereordered to be called for road formation near Adamson's (12 chains). — It was resolved to defer proceedings re the gravel taken by Mr Sims from' lot 411 until' after the passing of the Hamilton Borough Boundaries Bill. — Mr E.Wilson's account for works in connection with the Cook-street dtainage was referred to the Works Committee.
