NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night
The gale on Saturday night ami Sunday morning was felt severely hero, Ihe chimney of the house of the engineer of the harbour works was blown down, and the roof of the mixing-house was nn coveied. The fury of the wind and sea was at times terrific, and the foiee of water tremendous, but the breakwater withstood all, showing the substantiality of the structure. Yesterday morning Omata was visited by a whirlwind, doing much damage. Houses were considerably damaged, chimneys knocked down, roofs torn off, and several chains of fencing was blown down, and two haystacks and a strawistack demolished. Se\ eral tiecs were torn up by the toots, and other damage done in the neighbourhood.
