CHRLSTOHURCH, Last Night.

A considerable quantity of wreckage, including a ship's mast, about 60 feet long, has been seen on the coast during the past few days, it is feaied that a, calamity has occurred at sea. Fiom.Motanau the N.Z. bhippmg Company have received the following telegram :—": — " The wreckage is of a good sized wooden vessel, coppcied ; theie is no trace of name, neither the rudder nor the stein of the ship's boat bear any letters ; one cask ot tallow came ashore branded E.A. No need of apprehension as to its being the company's ship Russell. It blew a heavy gale on Saturday night with rain ; one of the coal company's baigcs with 120 tons, coal in, lying out at the loading ground filled and rolled over, thus causing the loss of one hundred tons coal.
