WAIKATO PLOUGHING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the abovs association was held in the Duke ot Cambridge Hotel, on Saturday evening last. There was a large attendance of settlers, and Mr R. Kirkwood was unanimously voted to the chair. — The chairman in opening the meeting, spoke at some length on the object of the meeting, and asked all to lend every assistance in their power to make the association a success. He thought it was now near time that they gave some practical proof of their existence, having kept quiet for such a considerable time, and he would therefore move, " That a ploughing match be held iv the middle of July." The match having been fixed for the 19th., Mr Kirkwood amended his motion, which was carried. — After a little discussion, it was resolved to appoint a sub- committee, consisting of Messrs Hicks, Heath and Allwill, to choose suitable ground from that offered to the association for ploughing operations ; and" also that the subcommittee meet at 2 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon to view the ground, and report to the meeting to be held the same evening at 8 p.m. — On the motion of Mr Francis Hicks, it was agreed that a dinner be given on the evening of the ploughing-match day at the Duke of Cambridge Hotel ; ibis matter to be more fully considered at the next meeting. — It was agreed to advertise'the programme of ,the match in The Wailcato Times of today.—Messrs Norgrqve ( and Gemmil were deputed to canvas the town for extra prizes to be-presented for the ploughing contest.— A programme,' of events, with the" prizes, t t o be 1 offered was then drawn up and submitted, and unanimously adopted on the, motion of Mr Kirkwood. — This terminated /the meeting.
