RAGLAN.

The usual quarterly muster of the Raglan Rifle Club, was held on the 17th inst. There was a good attendance of members, which would have been still better had not the weather been so bad. A decided improvement was noticeable in the size of the scores made in the firing for the prizes ; which result is probably consequent upon the greater interest which is now taken in the practices by the members, than at any previous time. The prizes, three in number, were won by Messrs D. Burns, C. Gilmour, and F. Savage, respectively. Mr W. Vercoe acted very efficiently as marker during the day. At the conclusion of the firing, a general meeting of the club was held in the Royal Hotel, when a petition was signed by all present, praying the Government to take steps to have the club supplied with better rifles than they have at present, The Captain informed the meeting that the petition would be left at the Post Office for a few days, for the purpose of getting as many signatures as possible, prior to it being sent to Wellington. It was also resolved, that after the present members should procure uniform, such uniform to be a blue serge tunic, and trousers with red stripe, and French peaked military cap. The officers have decided to give the men musketry drill; as they are desirous of seeing them as proficient as possible in the use of the rifle. A large amount of interest, also seems to be evinced in the welfare of the club by the outside public, and it is to be hoped that the Government will see fit to grant the request they are about to make to them a favourable and prompt recognition.-(Own Correspondent)
