The House met at 2.30., but adjourned to 4 to enahh the Ministers to see the Governor off. QUESTIONS. Replying to questions put, it was stated : — The refreshment rooms at Mercer were well conducted, although lodgers had once been allowed to sleep in the ladies' waiting room. THE BROADEN CLAIMS. On the motion of Mr Johnston a committee was appointed to consider the propriety of giving the consent of Government to the reference of Brogden's claims under the provisions of the Government Contractors Arbitration Act, 1872. The committee consists of Sir J. Hall. Messrs Montgomery, Macandrew. Fulton, and the mover. On the motion of Mr O'Callagiian it was resolved that a committee be appointed of the whole to consider the propriety of a portion of the amount paid up to 1880 for incidental expenses to boards of education being restored, and the sum of 5s per child attending the district schools be paid with a view of enabling boards to return the 10 per cent reduction from school-masters' salaries. PRIVATE BILLS. Mr Hamlin moved the committal of the Private Bills Cost Bill. Mr Macandrew objected to the bill, as being arbitrary and uncalled for. Mr J. C. Brown moved that it be committed that day six months. Mr Hamlin explained that its object was to provide for mulcting parties in costs who introduced unnecessary bills. He consented to postpone the bill for two weeks. The motion for two weeks adjournment was carried. The House adiourned at 5.35
