Bank and Bankers Act Amendment Bill.
Bank and Bankers Act Amendment Bill introduced into the Legislative Council provides that where a cheque bears across its face on addition of the words "and company" between two parallel transverse lines, or two paiallel transverse lines simply with or without the words "not negotiable" added, shall be deemed a crossing, and the cheque shall be deemed to be a crossed cheque genet ally } where it bears the name of a banker either with or without the words ' ' not negotiable, " the cheque is deemed to be crossed specially to suit the banker. Where, uncrossed, a lawful holder may cross it generally or specially. Specially endorsed cheques are only payable to the banker in whose name it is crossed. For defacing bank-notes by writing, printing or stamping a name or matter relating to trade, a penalty of five pounds may be inflicted. Special bank holidays not exceeding one day at a time may be appointed by the bank authorities, of which a public notification must be made.
