Extension of the City. At the poll to-day it was decided by 1074 to 108 to incorporate the suburbs with the city.

Proposed Yacht Race. It is now definitely ai ranged that the sailing race between the German schooner, Flora, and the yacht Rita, will take place early next week, probably on Tuesday afternoon.

Inquest on the late Mr Wheeler. At the inquest on Mr Wheeler, the late manager of the Working Men's Club, who received fatal injuries while ejecting a disorderly member, a verdict of accidental death was returned.

Share Market. On change, to-day. Taupiri Coal Mine shares sold at 4s 3d ; Union Insurance, 22s ; Fisher and Co 11s 7d to 12s ; Accident Assurance, 4s 8d ; Kuranui Hill, 7s 6cl to 7s Sd.

North Franklin Election. The nomination for Franklin North, took place to-day. Major Harris and Mr W. I* 1 . Buckland were proposed. The show of hands resulted : Buckland, 25 ; Harris, 27.

The Coffee Palace. At a meeting of the directors of the Coffee Palace Company, it was definitely decided to proceed with the erection of the building, after the original plans immediately. It is the intention, however, only to lay a concrete 'foundation and put up one storey of the edifice, leaving the rest to be added as funds will permit. It is calculated that the rents derived from the shops attached to the palace will suffice to pay ten per cent, interest on the outlay.
