ROMAN CATHOLIC CONCERT AT KIHIKIHI.
The concert which was advertised to come off some few weeks ago in the Kihikihi Public Hall, in aid of tlie Roman Catholic of that district, but which was unavoidably held over, was held iv the hall, on Wednesday evening last, before an unusually large audience. Both in a musical as well as a financial seuse, Wednesday evening's entertainment was the most successful ever held in Kihikihi. A number of Cambridge fuends as well as amateurs from other parts of the Waikato kindly lent their services. The hall was literally crowded, but this fact may be attributed to the number of strangers who attended the races, and who were desirous of extending their patronage to a good object. The programme which was drawn up by Mr Farrell and a committee of gentlemen, was very extensive and well chosen, and the ladies and gentlemen who so kindly rendered their assistance arc deserving of many thanks. Mrs Andrew's soug " Consider the Lillies," together with the two 3ongs of Miss Pinch were deservedly admired. The latter lady possesses an admirably cultivated voice which she can utilise to much advantage. The songs of Miss Stewart and of Miss Bage were very good, but their individual voices would stand a little more training. The duet, " Army and Navy" by Messrs Moore and Jaggs, two Cambridge amateurs, was the chef iV ccuvrc of the evening, and the' solos of both these gentlemen were much appreciated. Mr Nicolson contributed the accompaniments, but occasionally inclined to press rather , heavily on the instrument. This fault was particularly demonstrated during the sow? of Mr Johnson, , which Avas almost inaudible. The harmony of ,the evening was somewhat disturbed by the interruptions of a number of persons who forgot at times that they constituted part of an audience, and from whom better behaviour might have been expected. /The following is the programme :—Musical overture on piano by Miss Wainright; Song, Come Birdie Come."
