TE A WAMUTU RACES.

These events, which will form the chief attraction to holiday-maker-a to-morrow (Queen's Birthday), promise to afford much enjoyment. The Te Awamutu people have long been famed as lovers of good sport, and they are not unmindful of the necessity for keeping up their reputation. The stakes, which are unusually high for country race meetings, have attracted large fields, not only of the best local horseflesh, but including many- well-known " cracks" belonging to other places. The committee and. the energetic secretary, Mr R. Roche, have been indefatigable in their efforts to make the arrangements perfect, and from present appearances they are likely to be m.favor with Jupiter Pluvius. Indeed, the weather has not been so good as it is at present for the last couple of months, and there seeme more than a probability of to-morrow boasting the traditional " Queen's weather." " Blue Gown " sends us the following tips for the above events :—: —

Handicap Hurdles. Rakau or Daric.

Maiden Plate. \ y$ Strathearn. (

Maiden Steeplechase. Doctor, or Rakau if he is kept for the occasion, with Blue Gum second.

Tb awamutu Cap. King Quail or Venture. Still Stanley is not to be despised.

waikato Handicap. Stanley.

Publican's Purse/ ' . Robert the Devil or Venture.
