London, May 16. In the House of Commons last night, a bill was introduced by the Government for dealiug with the question of payment of arrears of rent in Ireland. The measure provided that the Irish church surplus should be appropriated for the purpose of clearing the tenants of their liabilities. The church fund will thus be entirely exhausted. It has transpired from reliable sources that before his release from Kilmainham goal, Mr Paraell promised that agrarian outrages in Ireland should cease, and he undertook to co-operate to that end. The Australian mails per the Orient Company's steamship, John Elder, which left Melbourne on the fifth of, April, were delivered here yesterday. Melbourne, Yesterday. Arrived this morning the P. and 0. Co.'s steamship, Hydaspes, with the inward Suez mans, which left London on April 7th. In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Berry's amendment to the Address-in-Reply to the Governor's speech, amounting to a vote of want of confidence in the Ministry, was rejected Dy 45 to 29, and the Address-in-Reply was then passed. The reduced tariff for telegraphic messages between Australia and New Zealand will take effect from the Ist June next.
