HIROKI SENTENCED TO DEATH. [BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Thursday.
The Supreme Court case of Hiroki vu«b'. continued this morning. There was ano^f _ thing new in the evidence. Mr RisH* mond made an able defence for prisoner, and the Judge summed up, in » very careful manner. The jury retired at 4.45 p.m., and after an hour's absence returned into Court with a verdict of guilty. In reply to the usual question why sentence should not be passed on him, the prisoner replied that he knew nothing of the murder of McLean. The Judge then passed on the prisoner the usual sentence of death. During the Judge's summing up, he said he believed that there was no necessity for a change of venue in the case, as he was perfectly sure the prisoner would receive as fair a trial at the hands of that jury as if he had been tried in any other place.
