HAMILTON DEBATING CLUB.
The first meeting of the ISB2 session of the Hamilton Chess and Debating Club was held in the Court-house on Thursday evening. The chair was occupied by the rething Pie&ident, Mr James Hume, and there was a fair attendance of members. — The first business brought before the meeting was the election of President, and on the motion of the Chairman of Committee (Rev. D. Fulton), seconded by Mr John Knox, Mr Hume was unanimously re-elected to the office. — Mr Hume thanked the club in suitable terms, and hoped that during the ensuing year the members would manifest increased interest in the objects of the society. He would, he could promise them, do his .best to assist, and trusted they had a prosperous session' before them. — The Chairman of Committee said his colleagues and himself had had it under consideration to amend the rules of the club, so as to exclude the parliamentary element, and increase the nsefulness of the He therefore.mpved that the club go into committee to consider the alteration of the rules. -rThe motion having been carried, the club ;went into committee, the chair being oociipied by, Rev. ?'D. F. Sandes ; Treasurer, Mr S. E. G. Smith ; Committee of Management—Rev. D. Fulton, Messrs Robt. Bradley and McLernon, (with president, secretary, and treasurer ex officio)', Auditors, Messrs John Knox and B. 0. Mounier. It having been agreed that the committee should meet the next evening to prepare a programme, the meeting adjourned till next Thursday. " > ".
