PROPOSED FLOUR MILL FOR TE AWAMUTU.

Immediately after the meeting re the establishment of a cheese factory at TeAwamutu, on Saturday night hist, a number of the principal farmers of the district assembled in Lewis's Central Waikato Hotel, for the purpose of considering the advisability of establishing a flour mill in the district. The meeting was impromptu, not being convened by advertisement, and consequently no chairman was appointed, nor were any resolutions put to the meeting. Those present agreed that it was desirable that a flour mill should be established, as they had to go a long distance at present to get their corn ground ; and not only was money thus carried out of the place, but an industry the establishment of which would materially benefit the place, was badly wanted. The erection of a mill on the banks of the Mangapiko Mas spoken of, the water of that river to be utilized for the turning of the machinery, but Mr Scott, of Paterangi, who was present, and who had recently made observations as to the adaptability of the river for the purpose mentioned, said 1 that if they dammed the water to the 'extent requisite, it would take more *o compensate the settlers for damagi ulone to their property by the overflow \ig of the river than ever their mill would be able to make. The expense of a sceam mill was also gone into. A 14-horse-power engine would be required, and a gentleman present gave his experience as to the requisites and.working of a steam mill. • It was estimated that a mill could be built, a site secured, and the necessary machinery procured, and all put in working order for about £1000. It seemed to oe the wish of all present- that some enterprising miller should come to the district and start a (mill oo his own account, when he would bVwl patronised by the farmers of the district. In. the event of no millet* having the necessary enterprise all were unanimously in favor, of floating a company on the co-operative principle. It was also mooted that some of the settlers should communicate with some of the Southern millers, asking theii: experience and advice on the matter. • •
