The Hon. Mi 1 Whitaker lost no time in answei'ing the summons to - Wellington. He "was ready to meet the Hmemoa on her arrival with Sir George Grey this morning, and the steamer got out again by the same title. It is believed that all the late ministers, with the exception of Hall, will, rejoin, Rolleston taking over portfolio of Minister of Public Works, vacated, caused by the withdrawal of Hall, which will probably be left unfilled until after Parliament meets. Hall will, most likely, resign his seat in' the House of. Representatives, and' pay a visit ' to ' England.' Referring to the 'interview " between Sir George Grey and' the Governor, ' the Star to-night says that His Excellency, without asking Sir George Grey to form a Cabinet, inquired of him, whether he' could give a positive guarantee that if he, were called upon to construct a Ministiy from his political party, he could' form a Cabinet which would certainly hold a majority. After consideration Sir George returned' an answer that with so many new members in the party it was utterly '-'impossible for auy House to give such a guarantee, and he agreed with His Excellency that it was flight, • therefore, ' under the 'i circumstances that the members of the former Government • 'should 'be > afforded' an opportunity of meeting > [Parliament. Telegrams Jfrom the* Herald 'correspondent asserting that differences had; occured between His Excellency and .Sir" George Grey are utterly baseless, and a malicious fabrication. Having known Sir Arthur Gordon almost' from childhood Sir George Grey would not under any circumstances have advised liim"*to a course that was not certain of approval of the Parliament and their relations in Wellington were throughout of the most harmonious character, a fact which vwas testified to very touchiugly.in a letter -of farweli which His Excellency- addressed to Sir George Grey prior to his 'departure for Auckland' in the Hinemoa 1 .
