THE POLITICAL CRISIS. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Last Night.

PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Last Night.

The Star to-night says : —Nothing new has occurred with refetence to the political crisis. We know, however, that the statement of the Herald 1 s Christchurch conesponclent, that " Sir Geb. Grey has actually -received authority to form a Ministry and that he has intimated tnafc he will be prepared to do so" is absolutely untrue. Until Sir ?Geo. Grey reaches Wellington there is "not likely to be" any fresh developement. It has, however, transpired that if the Governor had received the recommendation of the retiring Cabinet he would have found that the hon. F. .Whitaker and not Major Atkinson was named as the gentleman to whom, should be entusted ,-the task of forming a new administration. This statemeutis reliable. It appears that an objection was raised with reference to Major Atkinson assuming the duty, and it was agreed among Ministers that Ins Excellency should be advised to send for Mr Whitaker, an intention which the Governor's anticipated aefciondefeated. The Cabinet were, however, aware that the advice could only be tendered after the resignation at the express request of his Excellency, and the lion. Mr Johnstone was instructed accordingly.'

Night. Nothing lias as yet transpired regarding the interview with the Governor yesterday.
