CRICKET. Hamilton C. C. v. Alexandra C. C.

The return match between the Hamilton and Alexandra Clubs took place on the ground of tho latter on Easter Monday, and resulted, as will be seen by the appended scores, in an easy victory for Hamilton. Although the weather had been very boisterous during the previous week, it cleared up on Easter Monday, and a better day for cricket could not have been desired. Punctually at eleven o'clock the captains of the respective teams, Messrs Wood and Grierson, left it to the fortune of " heads or tails" to decide which should go in first. Grierson winning the toss decided to take the wickets, sending in Lang and W. Bond to handle the willow against the bowling of Wood and Touks. The wickets oi the Alexandra men fellfast without any runs being made until J. C. Grierson and T. Bond got together. These after making seven runs each retired, and their successors continued to make duck's eggs, with the exception of P. Connell, who put together five by hard hitting. The last wicket fell for a total of 23. The Hamilton players then took the wickets, J. B. Smith and Seddon facing the bowling of Benge and T. Bond. Smith was soon disposed of for two, but Seddon Avas not caught until he had put a dozen together. Palmer after making five was bowled by Grierson and relinquished his bat to Gleeson, who made 10 before he was splendidly caught by Lang at point. Tonks followed Gleeson at the wickets, but after contributing four to the Hamilton score Nicholson carried away his off stump. Pilling and Wood then got together and gave the Alexandra men some leather-hunting. Unfortunately Polling was run out after making nineteen, but Wood was not disposed of until he had mode twenty-nine by some very brilliant play. Forrest and Hunt filled up the vacancies at the wickets left by Wood and Pilling. Forrest only made three singles, but Hunt by some very fine hits put together nineteen. Cpchranc, Ewen, and Meacham added very little to the Hamilton score, and the innings closed for a total of 144. In the second innings of the Alexandra team the only scores worth mentioning were those of W. Bond and J. C. Grierson, viz., nine each. The second innings closed for a total of .32, thus leaving Hamilton victorious by one innings and 89 runs. The following are the scores :—: —
