RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL.

The annual meeting of the Raglan County Council was held in Raglan, on the 31st uitimo. Members present : Messrs Duncan (chairman), Hodgson, Sherritt, and Gilmour. It was unanimously resolved "That the Counties Act, 1876, be still held in abeyance within this county." — It was resolved '"That the Colonial Secretary be requested to divide the county subsidy amongst the road boards within the county in the same ratio as hitherto." — On the motion of Messrs Hodgson and Sheritt it was resolved " That the Government be communicated with, expressing to them the disapproval of this council to the manner in which such large deductions are made from the subsidy due to this county for the support of hospitals where there is not an hospital nearer than Auckland." — It was resolved "That the member for the district be written to, requesting him to use his influence in having such a sum of money voted next session as would form a road from the boundary of the Pirongia Highway District, through the Karamu District, as far as the Raglan and Waipa Road." — It was decided "To authorise the chairman to take such action as he thought most advisable to secure the repairing of the approaches to the Whatawhata bridge, which are in a very bad state."— lt was resolved "That steps be taken to induce the Government to secure a right of road through the native land at Kopua for the benefit of the Karioi settlers."— lt was resolved " That the Minister of Public Works be communicated with, requesting him to proceed with the work on the Raglan and Kawhia road, so that it may be completed and made fit for traffic."— lt was decided "To charge the Raglan School Committee 10s per week for the use of the county chambers after the 31st July next."— lt was resolved "That steps be taken to fill the vacancies in this council, owing to the circumstances that no election of councillors has as yet taken place for the ridings of Onewhero and Whangape."— lt was resolved "That application be again made to the Government to have a telegraph wire run over from Hamilton to Raglan." — It was decided to hold the next meeting of this council at Whatawhata.— Mr W. Duncan was again unanimously elected chairman of the council.
