THE CASE OF LAWRENCE HEYES. [ BY TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Last Night.
Lawbexce Heyes, who in October last was convicted at the Auckland Supreme Court, on a charge of committing a rape on a woman, at Hamilton, and sentenced to 5 years' penal 'servitude,' has now been pardoned. From the first a large number of "the residents of Hamilton" were" of opinion that the evidence f was r ,not of a character to warrant .conviction, and since that time have taken steps to have him released. His- -Excellency, at the recommendation ,of Ministers, agreed to pardon. Heyes, and he will be set at liberty, without delay. r s
