CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BOARD.

A hlfeETiNb of the Cambridge Domain Bo^rfrfaa'heid ill the Cambridge Town Board/rffice at 7 o'clock on Monday evening §aeb, i Otyiere were' present \ Messrs T. Wells^cnairroan),,^., B. Walker, J. P. Campbell, and l£ Kirkwood. The Chairman laid'bn the table a plan 6f the domain on a reduced scale, which he had obtained from Mr Gwynneth for five guineas. He also stated that the accounts of the board had been submitted 'to ' Major Tisdall, the Government y auditor at Wellington, who, after some had returned the conditions of lease with the original signatures. All ' the accounts were reported as perfectly satisfactory. — The chairman said he had another matter to bring before the board, which had been brought forward by a letter from the Rev. Mr Willis. The letter asked permission to substitute barbed wire for common No. 6 wire, the quality specified in the conditions of lease. He thought that by acceding to the proposition of the applicant the board would be considering both the interest of the public and the lessee, barbed wire being a superior article to the common wire specified in the lease. Application granted.

Caution to Lessees. The chairman said he had another most important matter to bring before the meeting. He had found that on some of the allotments the survey pegs had been removed during the fencing operations of the lessees. These pegs were taken out of the ground to make room for posts and then thrown away, thus destroying the whole domain survey, for which the board had paid so handsomely some few months previously. He would recommend that a few circulars be printed containing the clause of the Act which referred to the destruction of survey pegs, aud sent to the various lessees. They wonld thus see the penalty they were liable to, and perhaps be induced to desist from meddling with the pegs in future.— Mr Kirk wood thought that in case the survey peg happened to be on the corner of an allotment it would be impossible for the lessee to get the whole of his property if he could not remove the peg to put in his corner post. — After some discussion, a resolution was drawn up in terms of the chairman's suggestion, and the secretary was instructed to carry out the same. A lessee named Henry Preece submitted the plans of a four-roomed cottage, to be erected on his allotment, for the approval of the board.— The chairman said that the conditions of lease engaged that the plans of all buildings to be erected on the domain lands should be submitted to the board for approval. He would like the meeting to lay down some definite line of action in regard to this matter: whether the plans were to be con&ideied as they were submitted, or whether they were all to be built accordto a set of given plans, say for fourroomed, six-roomed, and eight-roomed cottages. — Mr Wdlker thought it would be rather hard for the board to bind the lessees down to some particular style of building, considering the high rent they had to pay. He thought they should only be \ bound to the height of the studs and the quality of the timber, say kauii. — The chairman thought they should not be so particular as to the timber considering that it was not contemplated to erect permanent buildings as all should revert to the board at the expiration of the Iccise. — Mr Kirkwood thought kakikatea good enough timber for the buildings,— Mr Campbell would insist that they be painted and have a small verindah, \\ ith the studs at least 10 feet, in front.— Mr Walker thought all plans submitted should be entertained, so long as the house proposed to be built was of respectable dimensions and appearance. — Mr Campbell did not think the people would be prejudiced in any way by having to go by given plans. — On the motion of Mr Kirkwood it was finally agreed that the matter stand adjourned until the chairman secured plans of buildings from the Auckland timber companies to go by. On the motion of Mr Campbell it was agreed that the lessee of allotment No. 47 be notified that his allotment should be fenced on the Gorton road frontage on the inside line, and that the board agrees to pay the expense of shifting Mr Kirkwoods fence so as to bring a road through the domain a chain and a half wide. — Carried.

Recreation Ground. The chairman enquired what action the board contemplated taking in reference to the providing of a reserve for recreation purpo&es. They had at present an overdraft at. the bank of about £33. The next instalment of rent came due in May next, amounting to £82 4s, which left them about £50 in hand after clearing off the overdraft. In March laat a scheme had been submitted for dealing with the 35 acres of laud which had been ploughed up some time ago by the settlers, and the estimated cost of levelling and sowing the ground was qbout £120, exclusive of 75 cwt. of bone dust. If anything therefore was going to be done this autumn, it was absolutely necessary it should be done at once. It could now be levelled, and ploughed, and sown in spring. — Mr Walker thought it > would be better to finish the 35 acres so as to make it available for recreation purposes, and spend what money they had on it. — It was accordingly agreed that tenders be called for clearing and ploughing the 35 acres at once, and that the levelling be left to Messrs Walker and Wells for consideration. This was all the business.
