THE TE AWAMUTU IMBROGLIO.
A correspondent writes, on Thursday : — The, case of Sloane v Johns, and the cross, cases of Johns v Sloane occupied the whole time of the court here to-day. Mr Gresham was the counsel for Mr Sloane and Mr Speed for Mr Johiis — The first case in which Sloane was plaintiff and Johns the accused, was for abusive and insulting language with intent to commit a breach of the peace, in Te , Awamutu, on 23rd February last. Judgment for plantiff, costs £4 2s, and the accused bound over to keep the peace towards 'Her Majesty's subjects, and especially William Sloane, for the space of six callender months, himself in £20, and two sureties of £10 each. — In the next case, Johns v Sloane, abusive language in putting a question to complainant at an election meeting in November last when he was a candidate for Parliamentary honours. To wit," Give your experience of the social evil," the information was dismissed, with costs, £3 12s.— The next case was brought by Johns against Sloane for abusive and insulting language at a public meeting in Te Awamutu, on 11th February last. To wit " Give the money to Hannaford." ,The case, was also dismissed with costs £1 Bs— Then came a third, case brought by Johns against Sloane .for threatening and .insulting language with, intent to commit 'a breach of the peace, in the publi^ street, Te Awamutu'.oh the ,23rd February last, To wit,; s* , You are a liar," "You lie," " I will settle you quietly Johns." This was also' dismissed costs £1' 3s. Johns acfraally cried in. the court.
