FARRO W ESCAPE FROM FIRE AT CAMBRIDGE. * [by telegraph.— own correspondent.] Cambridge, Last Night.

Raynes's National Hotel narrowly escaped being the scene of a most disastrous conflagration to-night. At about a quarterpast 7, some persons in the hotel noticed smoke issuing from one of the upstairs passages. Some time elapsed before the source of the smoke was discovered. Light was noticed reflecting from under the door of one of the bedrooms, and on the door being opened, it was found that the room was entirely in a blaze. Mr Raynes, assisted by a few other gentlemen, set to work at smothering the flames, and, a plentiful supply of water being at hand, they fortunately succeeded in their endeavors. The flames were noticed by some people who were passing by at the time, who rushed upstairs to render assistance if wanted. The room in which the fire originated faces Alphastreet, and contained two beds, which were destroyed. This was all the damage done. The cause of the fire is not definitely known, but Mr Raynes ascribes it to the fact that one of the boarders who occupied the room, on going to wash himself before tea, through some carelessness, "set fire to the bed.

Another Outbreak. Shortly after 9 o'clock another outbreak of fire was discovered in one of the rooms, which was also got under before any serious damage was done. Nothing is known as to the cause of this mysterious outbreak.
