CAMBRIDGE TOWN BOARD.

A special meeting of the Cambridge Town Board wa3 held at the board office, Lake-street, Cambridge, on Thursday night last, when there were present : — Messrs Thos. Wells (chairman), Johnson, and Hewitt.— The chairman explained to the meeting that in accordance with the instructions of last meeting he had, with Mr Gwynneth, modified the Victoria and Alpha-street contract, so as to bring its cost down to about £45. — In reference to the forming of the roadway at the corner of the new Colonial Bank, in Victoria-street, the chairman said he had received a letter from ' the manager of the bank, offering, to contribute £30 towards the cost of the work, and requesting the board to proceed with it at once. It was resolved that the job be let to Mann and Co. in terms ' of their tender, at a cost of £45.— My J. P. Campbell attended on behalf of Messrs Whitaker and Sheehan,' and submitted the .petition , of Cambridge householders, duly signed, and attested, praying the Governor to' bring the Town Districts Act, 1881, into force in, the district. It was resolved that the petition be forwarded to His Excellency the Governor, and that the 20th April next be fixed as the date for holding the first election under the new act. This was all the business.
