CONSTABULARY SPORTS AT CAMBRIDGE.

A number of the residents of Cambridge eager to manifest their good feeling towards the newly-arrived members of the Armed Constabulary prior to their departure for the roads, carried out a programme of athletic sports for their entertainment on Tuesday last. A working committee was soon formed, consisting mainly of Messrs H. W. Moore and Renton, who carried out the programme of events, acting as judge and starter respectively. The sports in which much interest was taken, were held in the Government paddock opposite Raynes' National Hotel, and were well attended by the townspeople as well as the members of the Constabulary force. A sum of about £20 was collected for prizemoney. The following are the results of the various events :—: — 100 Yards Flat Race. First prize, £1 10s ; Second, 10s. Aggers 1 Brewer 2 Hop, Step, and Jump, Prize, 10s. Keaney 1 150 Yards Handicap. First prize, £1 ; Second, 10s. Renner 1 McKinuon 2 Putting the Shot. Prize, 10s. Won by O'Rorke. 200 Yards Handicap. First prize, £1 10s ; Second, 10s. Craig... 1 Renner 2 Running High Jump. Prize, 10s. Won by McNeish. Height, sft. 4£in. 220 Yards Handicap. First prize, £1 10s ; Second, 10s. McKinnon 1 Scott 2 Pole Jump (handicap). Prize 10s. Won by Grey. Height, Bft. lO^in. Handicap Httbdles. First prize £2 ; 2nd 10s. Davey 1 O'Laughlin 2 Half Mile handicap. First prize gold ring, presented by Mr A. Raynes j 2nd entrance money. McLennan 1 Craig 2 Long Jump. Prize 10s. Won by Hitchman. Distance, 18ft. lin. 200 yds. Consolation.
